The George Square Thatcher Death Party

About an hour after the news broke of Thatcher’s death a Facebook group was formed calling for a ‘Thatcher death party in George Square.

This was the seen at 6:00 pm, the proposed time of the party.

The crowd was 70% hobby protesters, so you’ll probably recognise these faces. The press were out in force, so I had a bit of a fight to get the below shot.

6:20 – A Piper turned up which kicked off a mini-ceilidh. The pipes quickly drowned out the megaphones of the bedroom tax camp.

A small block of football casuals turned up, one of them bellowed a somewhat timid ‘up the RA’, nobody seemed to care, but I only heard it once.

Gotcha

This guy kept shouting ‘Malvinas, Malvinas’(Falkland Islands). The flag is the flag of the four provinces of Ireland.

Someone pulled out the champagne, but this didn’t sit well with everyone in the crowd, the press loved it though. I think milk would have been more appropriate.

A black block 30 strong appeared, they brought a few flares and a firework but also a tonne of booze. The police jumped them once they’d opened their tins, so they scuttled down towards St Enoch.

On the rim you could see the odd person staring in with some disgust, trying to understand what they were witnessing, but on the whole, it was the most civil death celebration party I’d ever been to.

Hats

By 7:30 the crowds were beginning to fade and the press had gotten what they needed for the evening’s news.

Thatch is dead

Then this genius turned up with a bag of dead thatcher Merch. T-shirts were £10.
